The arts of our people is reflected in the Adinkra symbol. Behaviors, attitudes, habits, virtues, culture and beliefs are the values preserved in our everyday lives. Our ideas about religion and the rites of passage also reflect some of our values. On this tour we will embrace some unique Ghanaian traditions and culture as we travel through major cities; Accra, Elmina and Kumasi

Day 1: Arrive in Accra

Akwaaba! Arrive and check into your hotel where you will receive a traditional welcome ceremony. Overnight at hotel in Accra


Day 2: Accra City Orientation

Breakfast at hotel. Today we explore Accra, the capital city of Ghana. This tour will take you to some historic sites. You will also see the site of Ghana’s first president and the African of the millennium Kwame Nkrumah mausoleum, the WEB Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture and shopping spree to put your negotiation skills to test. You will also see some markets of Accra, landmarks, fantasy coffins etc. Enjoy a local lunch. Overnight at hotel in Accra


Day 3: Slave Castles and Dungeons 

After breakfast we depart to the Central Region to visit the castles and slave dungeons. Here we will gain a deeper understanding of the inhumanity of the Atlantic slave trade though experiences at Cape Coast Castle and Elmina, the first point of European contact in Sub-Saharan Africa. Overnight at hotel in Elmina


Day 4: Kakum Canopy Walkway Cooking lesson! 

After breakfast we depart for a canopy walkway adventure at the Kakum National Park. Return to your hotel to freshen up after lunch. Late afternoon we will explore the food that makes Ghana so special through one of our hands-on cooking class. After creating several traditional dishes, we will enjoy eating the feast we just prepared! Overnight at hotel in Elmina


Day 5: Traditional Naming Ceremony. Travel to Kumasi

Enjoy breakfast this morning prior to check out. Participate in a traditional naming ceremony where you will be given traditional African name! You will also have the opportunity of an audience with a traditional Chief in state! Afterwards, depart for a drive to Kumasi, seat of the Ashanti Empire. Overnight at hotel in Kumasi


Day 6: Kumasi City Tour & Ashanti Craft Villages

Today we explore the Ashanti kingdom. Explore the legend of the famous Ashantis at the Manhyia Palace Museum where you will obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti kingdom, a regal history that dates back to 1700 and is told with relics and artifacts. Enjoy a drive through the city of Kumasi to view monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people. Later in the after we visit the three famous craft villages in the Ashanti Region: Ahwiaa (the wood carvers’ village), Ntonso (the home of Adinkra) and Bonwire (the Kente weaving village). You will have the opportunity to see how West African crafts are made and buy directly from the artisans who make them. Overnight at hotel in Kumasi


Day 7: Travel to Accra

Breakfast at hotel. Check out and depart to Accra. Arrive and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing. Enjoy traditional live band entertainment and dinner. Overnight at hotel in Accra
